Pre-operative preparation

Your pet should be fasted for 8-12 hours before surgery; water can be given up to 2 hours prior. Bring them in a comfortable carrier at the appointment time. Pre-op blood work lets us assess anaesthesia risk.

Post-operative care

Your pet may be drowsy for the first 24 hours after surgery — this is normal. An e-collar is used to prevent licking of the incision. During the 10-14 day recovery, avoid bathing and strenuous activity. Give pain relief and antibiotics exactly as prescribed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best age for neutering?
Small breeds: 6-9 months; large breeds: 12-18 months. We assess each case individually.
Is surgery risky?
Modern anaesthesia protocols and pre-op blood work minimise risk. Serious complications occur in fewer than 0.1% of cases.
Do the stitches dissolve on their own?
Internal sutures are absorbable; external skin sutures are removed free of charge at the clinic on day 10.
