Your puppy's immune system takes shape in the first 6 months. A correct schedule against fatal viruses such as parvovirus and distemper is the foundation of lifelong protection. This guide walks through the Türkiye 2026 protocol.
Puppy vaccination schedule
| Age | Vaccine |
|---|---|
| Weeks 6-8 | First combination vaccine (DHPPi): Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza |
| Weeks 10-12 | Second combination + Leptospira (DHPPi-L) |
| Weeks 14-16 | Third combination + rabies |
| Months 5-6 | Leishmania vaccine (endemic in Antalya) |
| 1-year booster | DHPPi-L + rabies |
Why three doses?
Puppies receive immunity from their mother's milk, which gradually wanes between weeks 6 and 16. The series is designed to catch the window when maternal immunity no longer blocks the vaccine. One dose alone is not enough.
Post-vaccination observation
Mild lethargy and reduced appetite for 24 hours are normal. Severe reactions (facial swelling, vomiting, breathing difficulty) occur in under 0.1% and require immediate attention. Avoid bathing and strenuous exercise for 7 days after vaccination.
When is protection complete?
Full protection is achieved 2 weeks after the three combination vaccines and rabies have been completed. Until then, keep your puppy away from parks and contact with stray animals.
